Creamy Cheesy Corn & Potato Chowder

I’m not going to serve up some ‘whine’ with my potato soup today but I want to be honest. I have a bad case of the BB’s. When inflicted with this condition you can often feel lethargic, less confident, bummed out, pitiful and tired. Just plain ole tired.

Chocolate Almond Torte

I've enjoyed exploring flour-less recipes recently and fell in love with the idea of a chocolate torte made with almonds.   You're right, I do love me some fudginess!  I also love the combination of chocolate with tart raspberries.  I was inspired my multiple recipes and ended up with my own and am very pleased with the final results.

Spinach, Kale & Egg Skillet

I'm not a big fan of over-easy eggs.  But (and that's a big but) baked eggs have found a place in my regular rotation of go-to meals.  This dish is shockingly delicious!  I actually licked my plate.  At our house we call that the 'Sarah influence.'  I was astounded how much I loved it, especially since I don't particularly love eggs.  So if you're looking for a terrific, easy, healthy weeknight meal or a weekend brunch casserole, give this a try.  I've already made this twice and was thinking about having it for breakfast this weekend again!  Yum.

Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon

Traveling husband was traveling last weekend.  So for three days I had lots of time home alone to mess up the kitchen.  First I started with the Chocolate Macarons.  After I had a mildly successful go with the little meringue cookies, I knew it was time to make Julia's Beef Bourguignon.

For more than a year I've read about these adorable little cookies and dreamed of one day making them in my own kitchen.  Every time I come across a 'how to' post or recipe, I read it multiple times hoping to have this all figured out before I started making them.  Silly me!

New England Clam Chowder

Just before Christmas my daughter and I took a trip to Chattanooga for a family baby shower.  While in town we had the opportunity to visit some of my favorite people in the whole world, C.A. and Vivian.  They are fun, generous and wise, and have been dear friends for almost 30 years.  For a real treat they took Allie and me to dinner at the 'Country Club.'  Chattanooga has a pretty fantastic country club with a beautiful golf course, wonderful banquet facilities and a darn good restaurant or two.  Since they know the hostess, chef and waitress all by their first names, it's safe to say they also know what to order.  They both proclaimed the clam chowder delicious so I had to give it a try.  It was very, very good and I would have it again in a heart beat.

Breakfast Parfait

 Looking for a breakfast with tons of protein, natural sweetness and some of those other good things like antioxidants and disease-fighting nutrients?  I know you've heard of Greek Yogurt.  Maybe you haven't tried it yet but meant to pick it up at the store.  Do yourself a favor and buy some, soon.  Greek Yogurt is fantastic in smoothies, as a sour cream substitute, or in a breakfast parfait.

 I woke Saturday morning to a cold rain.  Then the sun came out and the skies were almost clear.  Then a big wicked wind kicked up and it started snowing.

Almond Cake with fresh fruit

 Since I began blogging I've learned a lot about 'new-to-me' ingredients.  Almond flour is one example I'm happy we discovered.   My husband and I enjoy the variety of foods we eat now.  We're always experimenting and trying to find that perfect happy balance of healthy, home grown, fresh, delicious and blog worthy.  I do believe we'll see many more recipes and desserts featuring almond flour and the incredibly delicious coconut flour.



Cheesy Jalapeno Bread

This lovely loaf was a special request by my husband.  I was in the mood to bake and he was in the mood for cheese bread - what a match!  This recipe sounded too good and easy to pass up so into the kitchen I went. 

It helps me to keep busy doing projects when I am excited and nervous about becoming a grandmother.  I'm too young to be a grandma!  Well I guess that's not really true, but I don't feel old enough - but who does?  My poor daughter is now 6 days past her due date.  Maybe she needs to eat some spicy jalapeno cheese bread!

Potato-Lentil Stew

Do you ever watch "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives?"  Guy Fieri, the host of Triple D, has a couple of favorite phrases when he tastes something he really likes.  Sometimes he says "man that is money" and one of my favorites is some variation of "on the train to flavor-town."  So to borrow a phrase from Guy, this stew has already arrived in flavor-town!  Spicy, hearty, healthy and filling.  Certainly a stew to feel good about serving to your family or yourself!
