Well here I go … I’m blogging! My name is Tricia and this is my very first official post. I am very excited and hope that if you read this, you enjoy it, find it interesting, helpful, fun and supportive.
So here goes …
Saving room for dessert is a blog dedicated to healthy cooking and eating, losing weight, exercising, and indulging in the occasional dessert. You will also find stories about balancing my life after 50 while working full time, going to school part time and saving room for myself, my children and my husband (not in that order!)
I have two adult children, a wonderful (hardworking traveling) husband and too many pets! I’m tired of counting points, eating prepackaged foods and want to live a healthier life overall. I love the outdoors and work very hard to save room for the adventures in my life.
In the summer of 2010, I read a story on CNN.COM about a young woman who lost a lot of weight and contributes her success to reading healthy eating blogs. Until that time I had never even read a blog. It didn’t take long before I was hooked.
Now I’m documenting my own journey of eating real food, adding in regular exercise and losing 40 pounds. I have set a realistic goal of ½ to 1 pound per week over the next year. There’ll be weeks where I lose more, and some where I gain back a pound or two. But that’s ok. I have finally found a lifestyle I can live with and one that satisfies me.
Saving Room for Dessert will chronicle my efforts to balance healthy foods with an occasional homemade treat. I love to bake (and miss it so much) and look forward to sharing my secret family recipes for those special occasions.
I feel like a weight loss expert and remember counting calories as far back as the 8th grade. I believe in Weight Watchers and at one time lost over 80 pounds on the program. I learned a lot from the plan and found the meetings very supportive.
I got into a terrible rut and honestly can’t eat another prepackaged, microwaved box of something frozen! I also found that I can’t realistically eat that way the rest of my life. I have been unsatisfied with my meals for a long time and constantly felt deprived. I have also tried Jenny Craig and NutraSystem both with some success but no long term sustained results.
Now I’m doing the Tricia plan – using common sense and portion control while satisfying the occasional craving … I’m eating the way I should.
Saving room for dessert is about doing the things that make me happy, sprinkled in with the things I need to do to hopefully stay healthy and feeling great.
Thanks for visiting – and please share your stories so we can help each other.
