I swore that I was going to be a grump and not buy any candy this year. But once again my lovely daughter Allie talked me into it. “But Mom! I bought the cutest little costume for Max. He’s dressing up as a skeleton and I’ll sit on the front porch and give out the candy.” OK dear, I’ll get the candy. And as you saw on a previous post, we went pumpkin shopping too. I am SO committed to celebrating Halloween this year! Then, of course, Allie mentioned that “oh darn, I have to work Sunday night until about 10 p.m. Can you sit on the porch, give out the candy and let Max hang out with you, in his costume, and I need you to sew it and take it in a little on the sides?” OK Allie – I would LOVE to … grumble, grumble 🙂
Seriously, I usually love to see the children, meet the new neighbors, and wonder where they all come from since we get hundreds of trick-or-treaters. I spend at least $70 on candy – sheesh. The real reason I don’t want to participate this year is because of Abby.
Yes I’m talking about you!
Abby is one of those dogs. She is an 11 month old Jack Russell and is the kind that has a barking conniption fit when someone comes to the door. So I get to sit outside to keep her from scaring the kids.
What fun is Halloween if you don’t get to wrangle 3 dogs and a cat from running outside every time someone comes to the door? The other thing … grumble, grumble, I have to drool over all that candy and try not to eat it! I didn’t buy any chocolate this year (other than Tootsie Rolls) so hopefully I won’t be tempted.
But just when I thought all was lost, my son and his girlfriend came to the rescue! They came over (with her dog too) and we chunk’d the whole bunch outside in the fenced backyard to keep each other entertained. All except Max. Max had to put on his costume and have all the kids and parents ooohhh and aaahhh over him. And (bonus) my son and his lovely girlfriend sat outside with Max and the candy, and gave away every bite! Yeah Patrick and Callie 🙂 It was cold too … poor guy, Max looks so cold – oh no wait, Patrick looks so cold – sorry!
Well everybody survived and Max was the hit of the night. Glad another food holiday is past. Thanks to everybody for making it fun. I think this cow costume is so cute!
This is Max not in costume – he is pretty cute just like this. And, he is a pretty good granddog.
Hope you had a Happy Halloween!
