Instructions
Pour the olive oil into a deep, medium saucepan with a lid. Warm over medium heat until shimmering. Add the minced garlic and sauté for a minute or two taking care not to brown or burn the garlic. Add the Italian seasoning, oregano and red pepper flakes, if using. Stir until the mixture is well blended.
Add the tomato paste and stir for a minute or two or until the mixture starts to darken in color. Pour in the tomato sauce, onion powder and garlic powder. Stir until blended. Bring the sauce to a boil (it will be very thick). Reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer gently for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Use immediately or refrigerate sauce stored in a glass jar until needed. Thin with a little water if needed for desired consistency.
Notes
Pizza sauce can be frozen well sealed in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before using.
