When you make homemade English Muffins, you’re going to need something to go on top! I’ve been very interested in Black Bean Burgers (BBBs) and read every recipe I come across. Finally, I decided to take the ‘best’ from each of my favorite blogger recipes and create a recipe of my own. I love vege burgers and have tried many over the years. But I haven’t ever ordered Black Bean Burgers in a restaurant. To be completely honest, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a BBB on a menu. Maybe I just wasn’t looking? Well I am now!
Black Bean Burger
Gather the essentials such as red onion, a carrot, 2 cans black beans, oats, olive oil, pepper, salt, cumin, coriander, cayenne, garlic and a couple of small sweet peppers. These were so cute – mini-peppers – sounds like a movie star’s name – please welcome Oscar winner Minnie Pepper! Guess I’m getting in the mood for a Hollywood fix he-he.
Drain and rinse the black beans
Wash and dice the peppers removing seeds.
This little potato peeler is so cute! My daughter gave it to me.
He does a great job so I pulled him out of the drawer to peel the carrot.
This is where you pull out the handy-dandy Cuisinart DFP-14BCN 14-Cup Food Processor, Brushed Stainless Steel! If you don’t have one yet check it out. Add the oats to the Cuisinart.
Throw in the peeled and shredded carrot.
Add chopped red onion, diced mini-peppers, and garlic.
Then sprinkle on the olive oil, pepper, salt, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper and about 1 tablespoon bread crumbs.
Pulse until all ingredients are well mixed and chopped.
Add about 3/4 of the black beans to the Cuisinart.
Pulse a few times until a paste forms and holds together.
Add the remaining black beans and stir by hand to leave some chunky beans.
Form into 6 patties and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 300 degrees for 40 minutes, carefully turning each burger after about 25 minutes.
Allow the burgers to rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
I toasted an English Muffin, added a slice of Provolone cheese and served with lettuce, tomato and spicy mustard. Very filling and interesting.

Oh my goodness, I want that peeler pronto! My birthday is October sixth….feel free!!!
I need to try to make those black bean burgers for the kids for the family I work for! They are the pickiest eaters and they hired me as their private chef so they would eat healthier. So far, not much luck in having them eat their veggies, but I'm SO trying this. I won't tell them its meatless 😉

I need you to come and try the black bean burgers that they make at the Alamo Drafthouse, because they are my favorite and I would like you to figure out the recipe.

Thank you.

:)
A SPICY PERSPECTIVE
Brilliant idea! Love the concept of oats in the patties. 🙂
