Blackberry Frozen Yogurt – a healthy way to enjoy a frozen dessert, sweetened with blackberries and honey

Blackberry Frozen Yogurt - a healthy way to enjoy a frozen dessert, sweetened with blackberries and honey. #savingroomfordessert #blackberry #frozenyogurt #frozentreat #icecream #gelato #blackberryyogurt #blackberryfrozenyogurt

Juicy, plump, summer blackberries are the star of this delicious dessert!

You won’t believe how much flavor is in a scoop of this healthy ‘nice-cream’. With just 4 ingredients, the blackberries really shine. Be sure you use good quality ingredients as they will make all the difference in this recipe. Juicy berries, flavorful honey and smooth creamy yogurt are a must! However, feel free to substitute blueberries, raspberries or even strawberries if you prefer, but this gorgeous blackberry color is part of the fun!

Blackberry Frozen Yogurt - a healthy way to enjoy a frozen dessert, sweetened with blackberries and honey www.savingdessert.com

Blackberries are a good source of Vitamin E, C, K and dietary fiber, plain Greek yogurt is packed with protein, and honey is a great all-natural sweetener.

Start with just a small amount of honey and taste to see if more is needed. I processed my frozen yogurt in an ice cream maker but if you don’t have one, feel free to make this a no-churn treat.
I’ve had blackberries on my mind a lot lately due to the loss of our blackberry bushes. They bloomed beautifully but failed to produce any fruit. After investigating the possible cause we found it was probably a virus common to blackberries and all our plants had to be removed. We’re going to try again with new plants in the Fall. But our berry big failure didn’t change my love of the fruit!
My husband could not believe how much blackberry flavor is in this frozen yogurt and you won’t believe you’re eating a healthy dessert!

Thanks for PINNING!

PRINT RECIPE
A healthy way to enjoy a frozen dessert sweetened naturally with berries and honey

Ingredients

  • 32 ounces plain Greek yogurt
  • 12 ounces fresh blackberries, rinsed
  • 1 cup honey, more or less to taste
  • a drop or two of pure vanilla extract, if desired

Instructions

  • Place the blackberries in the bowl of a food processor. Process until smooth. Strain the blackberries through a fine mesh sieve set over a large mixing bowl. Using the back of a spoon, press the mixture against the sieve to extract all the juice. Discard the seeds and any pulp.
  • Add the yogurt to the blackberry juice and stir to combine. Add about 3/4 cup of honey and taste for sweetness. You may need more honey depending on how sweet the blackberries are. I used just under 1 cup. Add vanilla if desired and blend until smooth.
  • Process in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer instructions. Serve immediately if you prefer a soft serve consistency or freeze until firm. If frozen remove from the freezer about 15 minutes before serving.

Blackberry Tarts ~ juicy, ripe blackberries nestled in a buttery, flaky crust for an iconic, all American summer dessert.

Blackberry & Brie Mini Pizzas – soft yeasty dough is topped with caramelized onions, gooey brie cheese, fresh blackberries and walnuts. The mini-pizzas are baked until golden brown and crispy around the edges, then finished with fresh ground black pepper, arugula and a drizzle of good quality balsamic vinegar.

Lemon Ice Cream with a Blackberry Swirl – bright, tart lemon ice cream with a sweet blackberry swirl – this is a pretty terrific bowl of deliciousness!

Yummy! Making this on a warm day in winter (it’s 60 degrees in Denver!) makes me ready for light spring and summer desserts!

Thank you Brooke! I remember those odd warm days in Denver. I lived there a long time ago but will never forget my first spring. It snowed in early May, then the temperatures climbed to over 80 degrees the next day. We sat out in the sun in our lawn chairs, in the snow! Crazy weather for sure. Thanks for trying this easy treat. Ice cream is a year round favorite in our house!

Welcome back Tricia! I've missed you so much! This ice cream looks incredible, and I can't believe you can get that result using yogurt. I can't wait to try, so far this summer I've been going hog wild with the heavy cream in my machine. The color is to die for, and I'm pinning it right now.
Congratulations on your beautiful family.

The bridesmaids' dresses and this luscious frozen yogurt almost match! 🙂 Purple is such a rich vibrant color. It's my daughter's favorite too. Everything is beautiful about this post; the wedding photos, the couple, the smiles, adorable Issac. I am so glad everything turned out as you dreamed it would. 🙂 Except for those fortunate few on whom genetics has gifted the ability to stay

I was thinking that was a long hiatus for the wedding! Glad to see your post. The wedding looks wonderful – I hope you did the mother/daughter dance? Your grandson sure is a cutie too.
And I hear you on baking and that pesky waistline. I'll be happy for the "diet friendly" recipes… I'm back on the wagon after months of decadence. Bummer. But, necessary. So glad you're back!!! blessings ~ tanna
