Warm Black & Blueberry Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
- ½ cup water
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the berries, water, sugar and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to medium-low. Gently simmer the sauce, stirring frequently, until it thickens and reduces to about 1 cup, about 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the butter and vanilla. Stir until the butter is melted. Serve the warm sauce spooned over plain Greek yogurt, ice cream, biscuits, pancakes, waffles or a simple Angel Food or Pound cake.
- Refrigerate leftovers in a jar with a lid.

Sol delicious and so simple. Made this recipe exactly as is and it was fantastic spooned warm over vanilla ice cream.

Thanks for the feedback Deb – and for trying the recipe!
Delilah says
Used as a topping for cheesecake as well as layering in parfaits between layers of full fat greek yogurt and whipped cream and berries. Perfectly tart and sweet. I think next time I will leave out the butter because although it is supposed to be served warm, when it cools it has teenie tiny solidified droplets of butter and it doesn’t look very appealing.
Tricia Buice says
Sounds great Delilah – love the cheesecake topping! Thanks for the feedback and for commenting!

Amazing sauce Tricia, i would love this on my yogurt in the morning. We’ve had our blueberry bushes about 6 years now and the darn birds seem to be one step ahead of us every year.

We love the birds, we feed the birds, then we want to get rid of the birds haha. We have some pretty fat robins this year 🙂 Hope you get plenty of berries! Happy weekend Cheri and thanks!

Beautiful Tricia! We have blueberry bushes that are LOADED but the birds do tend to get them almost as fast as I can. I think one of them gets wind of ripe berries and spreads the news quickly! I’d love to have a stash of this sauce in the fridge and can think of so many delicious ways to use it!
Tricia Buice says
I think you’re right about the birds Chris. They must get invitations to our house! This sauce was worthy of a re-do, so I reposted it with better photos and an updated recipe. It goes great on just about anything. Have a lovely weekend!

This looks so refreshing and delicious! Just the right amount of sweet to balance the tart creamy yogurt. I don't know why, but our supermarket has blackberries on sale all the time and I am always looking for new ways to use them! 🙂
